Summary/Objective:

Lyman Products Corporation is looking for a creative individual who can bring immediate value to the company's growth plan. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Lyman Products Corporation, you will be at the forefront of innovation in the shooting sports industry. By leading meaningful projects through concept and design you’ll have an excellent chance to play a central role at a historic, established leader in the shooting sports industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to conduct research, find opportunities and create design proposals for innovative new products within our industry.
  • Capable of working well in a multi-disciplinary team environment with a high degree of collaboration.
  • Create conceptual, performance, and production criteria.
  • Facilitate the build and testing of proof of concept models and prototypes.
  • Develop and design components and assemblies for mechanical and/or electrochemical devices and tools.
  • Key contributor in component design: material and manufacturing method selection, analysis of mechanical stress and deformation, load distribution, tolerancing, and design for manufacturability, including preparation of detailed documentation and in-depth technical review.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design concepts, including stress analysis/FEA for mechanical robustness, and tolerance models.
  • Creative, outside of the box implementation of mechanisms and sensors into automated machinery.
  • Interface with electronics team to insure seamless integration of electronics into designs and design fluidity.
  • Evaluate design alternatives based on cost, quality and production feasibility.
  • Work with internal, domestic and global suppliers to optimize designs for production.
  • Provide detailed production cost estimates.
  • Create ROI studies for capital justification.
  • Part set up, and creation of BOM’s and routings in the company’s ERP System.
  • Provide manufacturing and production support for new products and continuous improvement of existing products.
  • Interact with manufacturing, quality, and line personnel to implement new designs into production.
  • Ideal candidate has broad experience in designing parts for CNC machining, injection molding, stamping, formingand casting.

Desired Qualifications:

  • B.S. or higher in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience on a design engineering team, with a focus on quality, reliability, and commercialization.
  • Proven experience in precision manufacturing and design for manufacture.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with supplier management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a developed sense of urgency.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, creativity, and project management skills.
  • Highly effective design skills in CAD (Solidworks) and in presenting concepts to project stakeholders
  • A background in mechatronics, including automated machines, motion control systems and sensor integration.
  • Experience in taking new products from concept through product launch and full lifecycle.
  • Motivated to achieve project milestones ahead of schedule, while maintaining alignment on goals, organized filesand attention to detail.
  • Ability to function in a team environment, respond to changing priorities, and take direction from leadership.
  • Comfortable motivating and leading project teams with enthusiasm and drive toward continuous improvement.
  • Highly effective in using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook to perform daily reporting, analysis and communication.
  • Experience working within an ERP System.
  • Firearm and accessory experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.

A successful candidate will have the technical ability to bring products from ideation through to commercialization and/or manufacturing. Instead of being a specialist in any single engineering discipline, the candidate must have broad technical aptitudes and interests. Compensation/Benefits:

Lyman Products Corporation offers competitive wages and benefits.  Compensation may be commensurate withqualifications and experience, with benefit details being available upon request.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, on-site position (40 hours per week), with standard hours being Monday through Friday starting at 8:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm, to include a 1-hour lunch break. Work outside of standard hours may be required as needed in certain circumstances. Some travel may be required. Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
